METAL CHURCH Guitarist Comments On Feud With Late Singer DAVID WAYNE

"The Classic Metal Show" featured the guys from METAL CHURCH co-hosting the show on Saturday, February 3. During this broadcast, late METAL CHURCH vocalist David Wayne became a topic of conversation on the show. Founding METAL CHURCH member Kurdt Vanderhoof and current vocalist Ronny Munroe discussed a few things regarding Wayne and his legacy. Vanderhoof was surprisingly candid about how he and Wayne were not getting along at the end of Wayne's life, but that he felt that fact should not be misconstrued as wanting anything bad to happen to Wayne. Further, he and Munroe discussed how their remake of "Watch the Children Pray" on their latest CD, "A Light in the Dark", was done to pay homage to the fallen METAL CHURCH vocalist.

The Classic Metal Show: On "Gods of Wrath", obviously the vocalist of that song was the late David Wayne. I think every metalhead, and really any human being, shows respect and understands the sense of loss. As the guy in METAL CHURCH that has been there since the beginning...well...he did some shitty things at the end. You know, with that album called METAL CHURCH and the album art and what-not. Is it easy to get past that now?

Kurdt Vanderhoof: There was a lot of bad blood between him and I after that; mainly because of things he did like that. But nonetheless, that's why we did "Watch the Children Pray" for him, even though him and I didn't get along anymore. Still, when he passed, I didn't want anyone to misinterpret the fact that we were having troubles and we weren't getting along into thinking that I wished him any ill will. That's why we did that, and also because for Ronny, it's like he's also acknowledging David Wayne, as well as saying, "This is METAL CHURCH now."

The Classic Metal Show: Let me take that over to you, Ronny. It's pretty much a given that no matter what you do in METAL CHURCH, you will always be compared to David Wayne and Mike Howe. Covering "Watch the Children Pray" would obviously put a lot of pressure on you to cover David on record. How much pressure did you feel with that song?

Ronny Munroe: Well, it really didn't put a lot of pressure on me at all. I just...I was with Kurdt on that, and I wanted to show respect for David Wayne because he did leave a very big mark on the heavy metal world with his voice. So, it was very easy for me to do, actually.
